Plot

Born in the dacoit infested Chambal, Manoj Kumar Sharma is the son of an upright clerk and the grandson of a subedar who died in action. His father and his grandmother are both honest and do not believe in corruption. Due to this unflinching belief, Manoj's father is suspended for hitting a corrupt officer. Manoj prepares cheat slips for his Class 12 final exam, as do all his batchmates, with the arrangements being under the influence of the local MLA who dictates all students must pass. However, a newly transferred officer, DSP Dushyant Singh, ignores the MLA's calls and arrests the headmaster when the latter tries to bribe him. As a result, the students flunk. Meanwhile, his father goes to challenge his suspension in the High Court, leaving the burden of family to Manoj and his brother. The brothers decide to put together a travelling car and charge fees so that he can help out at home. Manoj's brother is caught on false charges and the corrupt officers try to frame them; he, however, rushes to Dushyant, who bails his brother out. When Manoj requests to learn as to how to become a high-ranking officer like Dushyant, Dushyant advises him to "stop cheating." One year later, Manoj passes his exams, albeit in the third division, without cheating and chooses to pursue Bachelor of Arts to become a DSP. His grandmother gives him all her savings as he sets out to study in the government PSC coaching center in Gwalior, but his belongings are lost along the way after he falls asleep. At the local railway station, he meets Pritam Pandey, who had also come to study for PSC. His father now tells him to study for UPSC in Delhi. Manoj travels with Pritam to Delhi to study and become an IPS officer. He meets Gauri Bhaiya who is working up his last attempt to clear the examination and provides Manoj with job opportunities and a place to study. However, Gauri Bhaiya is unable to clear his final attempt. Deciding to move on, Gauri Bhaiya opens a coaching institute and tea stall named 'Restart' and provides his services for free. The following year, Manoj attempts the preliminary examinations, but fails. With Gauri Bhaiya's help, he reappears and manages to clear it. During a visit to a coaching center, he meets Shraddha Joshi, who is aiming for the PCS, and falls in love with her. Despite his best efforts, Manoj fails to clear his main examinations that year as well; his initially budding relationship with Shraddha hits a brief block when she learns of his true identity. He then decides to work even harder, though it yields the same result. He returns home and realizes that his grandmother has died. Now, a frustrated Gauri Bhaiya moves Manoj to his own house and tells him to give up working odd jobs and start to completely focus on his studies. He does so, and finally clears the main examinations as well, with help from Shraddha, who by this time has cleared her PCS examinations. Manoj Kumar Sharma, born in the crime-ridden region of Chambal, is the son of a principled clerk and the grandson of a brave subedar who lost his life in service. His father and grandmother, both paragons of honesty, are staunchly opposed to corruption. This unwavering integrity leads to his father's suspension for striking a corrupt officer. In his final year of high school, Manoj, along with his classmates, resorts to cheating on their exams. The local MLA, who controls the educational system, insists that all students pass. However, a newly appointed DSP, Dushyant Singh, refuses to bow to the MLA's pressure and arrests the headmaster when he attempts to bribe him. Consequently, the students fail their exams. Meanwhile, Manoj's father appeals his suspension in the High Court, leaving Manoj and his brother to shoulder the family responsibilities. To help support their family, they decide to start a mobile tutoring service, charging fees for their services. However, Manoj's brother is falsely accused and arrested, and the corrupt officers attempt to frame him. DSP Dushyant intervenes, securing his brother's release. When Manoj expresses his desire to become a high-ranking officer like Dushyant, Dushyant advises him to "stop cheating." Inspired, Manoj passes his exams without resorting to dishonest means, achieving a third division. He decides to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree with the aim of becoming a DSP. With his grandmother's financial support, Manoj enrolls in a government PSC coaching center in Gwalior. However, he loses his belongings during a journey, and upon reaching the local railway station, he meets Pritam Pandey, another aspirant. His father then advises him to aim for the UPSC in Delhi. Manoj and Pritam travel to Delhi to study and prepare for the IPS officer exam. They meet Gauri Bhaiya, a fellow aspirant who is making his final attempt to clear the examination. Gauri Bhaiya offers Manoj job opportunities and a place to study. Despite Gauri Bhaiya's best efforts, he fails his final attempt. Undeterred, Gauri Bhaiya opens a coaching institute and tea stall named 'Restart' and offers his services for free. The following year, Manoj attempts the preliminary examinations but fails. With Gauri Bhaiya's assistance, he reattempts and successfully clears the exam. During his studies, Manoj meets Shraddha Joshi, a fellow aspirant aiming for the PCS. They fall in love, but their relationship faces a brief hiccup when Shraddha learns about Manoj's true identity. Undeterred, Manoj redoubles his efforts, but to no avail. Upon returning home, he learns of his grandmother's death. Gauri Bhaiya, now frustrated, moves Manoj into his own home and urges him to focus solely on his studies. Manoj heeds Gauri Bhaiya's advice, and with Shraddha's help, he finally clears the main examinations. During this period, Pritam, who has been consistently failing his exams, becomes envious of Manoj. In a fit of jealousy, he spreads false rumors about Manoj and Shraddha, claiming that they are involved in a romantic relationship. This accusation strains their relationship, but they eventually reconcile, albeit with Manoj harboring deep resentment towards Pritam. Manoj had earlier noticed Pritam's desire to become a reporter, despite his father's insistence that he pursue the UPSC. He advises Pritam to stand up to his father and follow his own path. When Manoj is called for an interview, he responds honestly to all the questions. He reads a letter from Shraddha, in which she expresses her love for him and asks him to marry her. Overwhelmed with joy, Manoj aces the interview and exits with a broad smile. Two months later, Manoj discovers that he has topped his class. Overwhelmed with emotion, he breaks down in tears. A year later, he becomes a high-ranking IPS officer and visits DSP Dushyant Singh at the Mandsaur police station in Madhya Pradesh. He thanks Dushyant for his guidance and encouragement to stop cheating and presents him with his wedding invitation card. Initially, Dushyant doesn't recognize Manoj, but upon recalling their past interactions, he is filled with joy and embraces Manoj, congratulating him on his success. The film concludes with Manoj celebrating his wedding with his friends and family, having triumphed over the harsh education system. Pritam, who has finally pursued his dream of becoming a reporter, is also present at the celebration.
