Plot

In 1970, Telleru Lake was renowned as one of the largest freshwater lakes in India, serving as an essential hub for fishing and farming. However, for over four decades, the lake has suffered due to the establishment of fishing farms, predominantly owned by 'Visakha' Vani, which have also significantly polluted the lake. Our narrative turns to Panja Abhiram, a bright and principled young man from Eluru. Abhiram, having witnessed corruption within his own family, yearns for a society rooted in honesty and integrity. His father, Panja Dashrath, is a corrupt government official, a fact that fuels Abhiram's disdain for his father. A high achiever, Abhiram secures a place at MIT. However, when his father becomes embroiled in election fraud, Abhiram chooses to delve into the political system to effect change. Parallelly, Abhiram encounters Myra Hansen, an NRI searching for her missing brother, Dr. Varun Hansen, whose last known contact was with a local hoodlum named Guna. Meanwhile, Vani consolidates her power by founding a new party, sweeping the election, and installing her son, Indukuri Vishnu Vardan, as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Abhiram also meets Mani, an auto-rickshaw driver, whose father is engaged in a struggle for justice against Vani. As the story unfolds, Abhiram and Myra learn of Varun's tragic death. Their quest for justice is thwarted by an unresponsive police force. After acing the UPSC exam, Abhiram attends an interview in Delhi, during which he suffers a PTSD episode. In a shocking turn of events, he witnesses Guna murder Mani, on the orders of Vani. Shaken by the incident, Abhiram attends his interview but walks out after criticizing the interviewer's mindset. To everyone's surprise, including his own, Abhiram tops the exam. He later discovers that he was selected by the UPSC board as part of an experimental initiative to empower him as the supreme authority of the district, free from political interference. Once Abhiram begins his official duties, he focuses on apprehending Guna, who has been marked for an encounter. Abhiram succeeds in eliminating Guna but finds Myra unconscious at the same location. Upon rushing her to the hospital, he learns that she has been brutally assaulted by Guna in retaliation for Varun's research. Abhiram's investigations reveal a horrifying truth: several children have died, and their bodies are yet to be found. Outraged, Abhiram exposes the systemic failures to the media. He uncovers video evidence pertaining to Varun, revealing that Varun was a neurologist. The plot thickens as Varun's past unravels, revealing that his wife, Radhika, succumbed to a neurological disease caused by consuming fish from Telleru Lake. Digging deeper, Varun had discovered that Vani's fish farms had contaminated the lake, causing this public health disaster. In a moment of fury, Abhi manages to have his father and a health officer suspended for fabricating reports about the lake's condition. Armed with this information, Abhi approaches Vani with a proposition: clear her farms and halt all construction on the lake. Vani listens to his plea, sharing her personal journey. Once a passionate socialist like Abhi, she lost her father and husband during a state of emergency. This loss led her to understand that the system is unyielding, prompting her to adapt rather than resist. Despite this, she aligns with local fishermen, promising them stakes in her farms and turning them against Abhi. Abhi attempts to gather both sides for a meeting to persuade them against Vani. However, the gathering spirals into violence, resulting in numerous casualties. Due to these events, Abhi is suspended by the UPSC board, pending an inquiry. He later discovers that Vani has aligned with a central party, a group she previously opposed. This revelation leaves Abhi feeling used and manipulated, a mere political pawn. The fallout also lands his father in hot water with the villagers, leading to a physical altercation that Abhi must intervene in. In a flashback, it is revealed that Dashrath, Abhi's father, was once a dedicated officer. Yet, the loss of his wife and daughter, coupled with frequent transfers due to his integrity, led him towards corruption. Together, Abhi and Dashrath decide to take their case to court, armed with compelling evidence. High Court Justice Narasimham, moved by Abhi's final plea and under considerable pressure from politicians, rules in their favor. Vani, Vijay Kumar, and Dashrath are stripped of their positions and sentenced to life in prison. The Supreme Court orders an immediate halt to all lake construction. Following this verdict, a hospitalized Vani warns Abhi that his efforts are futile; the system will remain unchanged. Days later, Abhi finds construction on the lake has resumed. Upon confronting the villagers, they argue it's their turn to rule after 40 years under his caste's reign. Despite this, Abhi secures the support of Mani's father. However, this proves to be short-lived as Mani's father and his gang ambush Abhi in the forest, taking his life to claim the lake. Mani's father expresses regret for his betrayal before the act, acknowledging his impending entry into the vicious cycle of power. This tragedy, coupled with her newfound respect for Abhi's efforts, drives Vani to take her own life, weary of the relentless political game. This unfortunate event has deeply impacted both Telugu states, causing widespread distress. The film concludes by paying tribute to dedicated officers who, like in this case, tragically lost their lives in the line of duty, serving their societies.
